Dharamshala is a hill station located over a narrow ridgeline along the Dhauladhar range. Divided into two sections, the lower part of the town features the traditional settlement along with market areas while the upper town of McLeodganj is popular for the celebrity resident, His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Dharamshala does not have an airport within the premises. However, the closest airport is Gaggal, at a distance of 15kms, known popularly as Kangra Airport. The hill station is connected to the Capital city, Delhi, through operational daily flights arriving at the Gaggal airport.
